Benny L. Powell Sr

Pastor

Born to the union of Berkley and Elizabeth Powell in Charleston, Mississippi. In his infancy the family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he received his formal education for his adolescent years. At the age of nineteen, Benny L. Powell Sr. wedded his wife of thirty-four years, Linda Powell. To their union three children were born, the family soon moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Benny L, Powell Sr. was called into the ministry in the year 2000 under Pastor Harold Johnson. The family then attended Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Albert Alan Walker. Rev B.L. Powell served as an assistant to the Pastor Albert A. Walker for many years who ordained Rev Powell in 2011. Rev B.L. Powell received his bachelor degree at Taylor University, Fort Wayne, IN and a Masters of Art degree from Liberty Seminary in Pastoral Counseling. He is a licensed Therapist working in the area of mental health, marriage and family therapy, and addiction. Powell was elected Pastor of Greater Second Baptist Church on April 23, 2019. He is indeed a good man of God.

Jenelle Boyd

Pastor’s Nurse

Jenelle has been a member of Greater Second since 1976. She has worked in many different areas of the church. The most fulfilling was in any area of parenthood. Serving others is one of her spiritual gifts and comes naturally. Ms.Boyd is a mother of 2, a grandmother of 3, and employed in an area where I am a servant of the community. She is honored to be the Pastor’s nurse to Pastor and Sister Powell. She says “As I serve, I am blessed. As I serve, I grow spiritually. As I serve, I please God and for me, that is what it is ALL about!”

Lloyd Majors

Reverend

Reverend Lloyd Majors has been a dedicated member of GSBC since 1984. Elder Majors has served in the ministry in a few places. He was the Sunday School Superintendent from 1990-1993. Majors served as the President of the Men’s Ministry from 2016-2018. Currently, he sits at the right hand of the Pastor and also teaches the Sunday School Adult Men’s class ever since 2006. As a retired Navy Vietnam Veteran of four years, Reverend Majors not only likes to play golf, but also to praise the lord.

Larry Emmons

Reverend

Reverend Larry Emmons has been a faithful member of Greater Second ever since his calling to preach in 1981. He is married to Karol Emmons. They have 6 children, 4 girls and 2 boys. After serving 30 years on the Marion Fire Department, Rev. Emmons was ordained in 1983 under the leadership of the late R.H. Faulkner. Larry loves the lord, and enjoys hanging out at the local YMCA. He has participated in the Indy-Mini Marathon for the past 18 years. Reverend Emmons also owns and operates Emmons Grooming Shop where he gives God the praise for all he has overcome.

Carl Grant

Deacon (Chairman)

Carl Grant has been with Greater Second for almost 18 years since 2002. Married to his wife, Theressa Grant of 30 years, they make it to find our church their home. Deacon Grant has been involved in many ministries within the church where he is the Co-President of the Children’s Ministry. His wife Theressa, is over the church food pantry. They enjoy serving the lord together.

James E. Morgan

Deacon

Deacon Morgan united with GSBC in 1988 upon relocating here from Kalamazoo, MI, where he was a member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Bernie Warfield. Morgan was ordained a Deacon in 1990 by the late Dr. J.D Williams. He is the husband of Kate Morgan. He loves watching basketball, going to the movies, and working out his soul salvation in the church. Deacon Morgan faithfully serves as a Church School Praise and Worship leader and a Church School teacher. He is also apart of the Men’s Ensemble and the Men’s Ministry.

William Johnson

Deacon

William Johnson was born south in Slater, Mississippi. He transitioned to Marion with his family in 1969. Deacon Johnson has been a member of Greater Second Baptist Church since 1988. Married to his wife Jama Johnson of 30 years, Sunny enjoys praising the lord. He is participates in Bible Study and shows his faith through his works.

Richard Gordon

Deacon

Deacon Gordon joined GSBC on June 5, 2000. He faithfully serves as a Greeter and Deacon of the church. Gordon serves on the finance committee and the trustee board. He trims the church grounds and the parsonage. His wife Gwen, who has went home with the Lord was apart of the Women’s Ministry and the Food Pantry. They love chess and have a kick for cars, all while giving God the praise.

James Folden

Deacon

James. L Folden was born and raised here in Marion, Indiana. He graduated from Marion High School. He is married to Dee Folden. Folden serves on the Finance Committee. Being a prominent figure in the church, Deacon Folden is apart of many ministries and serves faithfully for the lord. They include, Vice President of the Outreach Ministry; Leader on the Beautification Ministry; Leader on the Men’s Ministry; Hospitality Ministry and Benevolent Ministry.

Jim Morgan

Deacon

Jim has been a faithful member and servant of GSBC since 2005. He is married to Marsha Morgan with 11 children. He is the President of the Men’s Ministry and Beautification Ministry. As treasurer, he manages the church finances along with the trustees and committee. Deacon Morgan enjoys working and one of his favorite movies is Shaft. He takes great pleasure in all of the gifts from God, that has allowed him to perform all of the duties the best that he can.

Larry Richardson

Deacon

Deacon Richardson was born here in Marion, Indiana. The son of Charles and Maxine Richardson, has 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He is the leader of the GSBC Men’s Ensemble. Married to his wife of 44 years, Kathy Butler Richardson, Larry has two kids, Terrel and Marcedes Richardson and four grandchildren. He is a servant of God and has been with Greater Second for 42 years.

Ed Bailey

Deacon Bailey recently joined Greater Second under Pastor Powell (May 2019) with his wife, Pansy. Born and raised here in Marion, Indiana, Ed is a retired electrician. He graduated from Marion High School. Deacon Bailey is certified in Electrical Training, Rockwell Automation, out of Indianapolis. He is married to Pansy Bailey of 24 years. They love to travel and they love the Lord.

Secretary

Marsha Morgan has been the church secretary since 2015. She is married to Deacon James R. Morgan. Together they have eleven children. Sister Marsha has been a faithful member of GSBC since 2005. She originally joined the church as a little girl in 1964 under the leadership of Dr. J.D. Williams. When she realized what God gave her, she promised him that she would do all that she could for him. Her duties include; making the weekly bulletins, assisting the Pastor, paying the church bills, teaching the women’s Sunday School class, and keeping track of the church finances or whatever the church needs. She knows that she can never repay God for His Grace, Mercy, and Love, but as long as she is on this earth, she plans to serve him until she dies.

Derralyn Morgan

Media Specialist

The son of Carlyn Fort and Derick Morgan, Derralyn is new in Christ and here to serve as best as he can. Originally born in Columbus, Ohio, he joined Greater Second in 2018 on Easter Day. He came to Marion from Atlanta, Georgia with a desire to set things straight, not only for himself but also for his relationship with God. Brother Derralyn is an entrepreneur and operates his own business. Born with many gifts, he found his way around with tech gadgets and picked up an interest in technology. As the Media Specialist, he oversees all social media outlets connecting the modern day world with the word of God. He also programs the church sign. Derralyn also is the church photographer, where he handles all the photo and video production of the church. Brother Morgan also humbly serves on the Usher Board. He quotes ” I may be young, but that’s the best time to get busy for the lord.”

Marilyn L. Wilson-Stewart

Sunday School Superintendent

In April of 1964, Sister Stewart joined Greater Second. At the time, it was named Second Baptist. She currently serves as the Sunday School Superintendent. Marilyn is responsible for the literature, classroom teachers, Easter and Christmas programs, and Vacation Bible School. She is also an advisor for the Women’s Ministry. In the past she helped to reorganize the ministry and served as President. Sister Stewart contributed to the creation of the “Pals to Seniors”, which is now known as the Senior Koinonia. She faithfully prepares candidates for baptism, teaching them the meaning behind it and why and how we do it. Outside of GSBC, she gives a church service at Wesleyan Nursing Home.

Shunice Brunson

Sunday School Teacher

Sister Brunson is the Church School teacher for the Junior Department. She has served in the Church School for 25 years. Sister Brunson been given the privilege and the opportunity to share God’s word with 4th, 5th, and 6th graders of the local community.

Kate Morgan

Sunday School Teacher

Deaconess Ruth Catherine (Kate) Morgan accepted Christ at the age of eleven here at Second Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of Reverend J.R. Bradley. She is the wife of Deacon James E. Morgan and a proud daughter of Frances Virginia Bobson, a long time GSBC member before her passing at the age of 104. Sister Kate currently serves in the Church School department as Kindergarten/ Primary teacher; Vice President of the Women’s Ministry, Daughters of the King. Her additional participation includes Wednesday morning bible study class, Vacation Bible School, and the Beautification Ministry.

Annie Williams

Sunday School Teacher

Annie Williams became a member of GSBC in 1966. She is married to Deacon Jessie Willams. They both serve the lord faithfully. Williams is the one of the Sunday School Adult Women’s class teachers. She also is the secretary on the Finance Committee. She knows she has to have good faith in the lord to keep her going. Annie serves on the Women’s Ministry, Usher Board, and she sings in the choir, GSBC Unity.

Willie McCain

Hospitality

Willie McCain was baptized at the young of at 7 years old in 1969 under then Pastor Rev. J.D. Williams. He is married to Colett McCain. His ministry here at GSBC is Hospitality. Brother McCain has been cooking most of his life but hospitality came about in the year 2000 when his sister started a catering business. His duties include purchasing supplies and food for the church kitchen, fulfilling the needs of special events, anniversaries, and funerals at Greater Second. He enjoys doing this and seeing the smiles on people faces. Willie also is responsible for the cleanliness and custodial of GSBC. The upkeep of the church is very important. We want to keep a clean and sanitized building at all times. Rather its vacuuming the floors, cleaning the pews, or evening wiping the windows done, Bro McCain sees fit to make it happen. His wife Colett assists him with both ministries and helps him keep it going.
